NEWS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 2, 2022, LEXINGTON, S.C. — The Lexington County School District One Educational Foundation recently received a generous gift of $15,560 from Publix to support students who may not have basic learning materials to start the school year off successfully with all of the school supplies they need. The kind donation is a result of the Publix “Tools for Back to School” register campaign.

Each year the generosity of Publix customers and associates makes this company-wide campaign possible, which results in donations to provide students and teachers with school supplies in the company’s local communities. This year’s donation will support Lexington District One students and the district’s social workers will use it to provide backpacks, pens, notebooks, earbuds for district-issued laptop devices, and other items that their many disadvantaged students in the district need.

Lexington District One Social Worker Alma Puente Ruiz shared, “We love Publix! The company is so great to contact me every year in order to give to support our students. We were excited to receive such a large donation this year that will help us purchase school supplies like sturdy backpacks and other items for our students who need help.”

Julie Anderson Washburn, Executive Director of the Lexington One Educational Foundation, stated, “This generous donation from Publix will be a tremendous help to our students whose families are struggling right now. Our Lexington District One social workers have a growing list of students who they support and serve, so charitable gifts from terrific corporate partners like Publix make a very positive difference in Lexington District One. Thanks to everyone in the Lexington community, too, for choosing to support our schools via the Publix ‘Tools for Back to School’ register campaign.”

The Publix gift was designated to the Educational Foundation’s Caring Heart Fund, which is a wonderful blessing in enabling Lexington District One social workers to assist the increasing numbers of Lexington District One students who find themselves in need of help.
