NEWS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 20, 2023, LEXINGTON, S.C. — The Lexington District One Educational Foundation recently awarded 6 Michelin Golden Apple Teacher Grant Awards to deserving teachers in Lexington County School District One. Fall Grant awards totaled $1490 and will positively impact 471 students in 6 schools in the district.

Congratulations to all of the Educational Foundation’s fall Michelin Golden Apple Grant Award winners:

  • Lexington High School – Debbie Oswald, Izzy Wise
  • Midway Elementary School – Chelsie Landy
  • New Providence Elementary School – Jennie King
  • Pelion Middle School – Linda Rosemond, Shannon Rudd
  • Saxe Gotha Elementary School – Patricia Dutton, Erin Sandusky

The leadership team at Michelin North America’s Lexington, SC site is terrific to make these grants possible through generous annual donations. Accordingly, the Educational Foundation offers this grant opportunity to Lexington District One teachers in the fall and spring of each school year. Teachers can apply for up to $250 in grant funds to help provide unique educational experiences for their students. The grants enable teachers to purchase items that enhance students’ learning opportunities that are not typically supported by the school budget.

Some of the fall projects chosen include the purchase of STEM manipulatives to provide hands on experiences which will be incorporated in math, literacy and social science lessons; the purchase of soil and seeds to establish garden boxes to help teach students with special abilities life skills, nutrition, scientific inquiry and research with the help of general education students; purchase supplies to create tiny model homes built specifically for a main character of a books read in book clubs, integrating STEM and ELA standards. Other grant projects will buy books with the grant award in order to enhance literacy efforts and increase the reading skills of students.

Congratulations to each of these educators for their accomplishment in earning one of the Lexington One Educational Foundation’s spring Michelin Golden Apple Teacher Grant Awards!
