NEWS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 29, 2024, LEXINGTON, S.C. —Amelia and Matt Pocta of Bald Cypress Builders recently presented a generous gift of $1,000 to the Lexington One Educational Foundation. This kind corporate donation will provide support to the Lexington Technology Center’s Building Construction Program in Lexington County School District One.
Lexington One Educational Foundation Executive Director Julie Anderson Washburn shared, “We are thankful for the continued generosity from Bald Cypress Builders to support our students at the Lexington Technology Center! Amelia and Matt both care about the future of the construction industry and love how Lexington District One makes such educational courses available to our students. These classes offer hands-on learning that transfers into marketable job skills in the future.”
The Building Construction Program in Lexington District One currently provides real-world experiences for students through courses at the Lexington Technology Center (LTC), as well as Gilbert High School and Pelion High School. This course of study is part of the district’s School of Engineering, Manufacturing & Industrial Technologies Architecture & Construction Cluster. Students are able to complete the Building Construction Career Technical Education Sequence by enrolling in Building Construction 1 & 2. In addition, LTC offers courses in Cabinetmaking, Construction Project Management, and Electricity 1 & 2.
Students may also compete in the state and national competitions each year with SkillsUSA, which is an organization that promotes leadership and partnership between students and industry. Each school program builds a house and the students are involved in every step of the home building process. The competition gives the enrolled students practical, real-world, hands-on experiences that industry partners value.
One of the Bald Cypress Builders owners, Amelia Pocta, shared, “We’re so grateful to be donating to Lexington Technology Center’s Building Construction program again through a gift to the Educational Foundation. We said this before, and we’ll say it again: we’ve seen how wonderful and fulfilling careers in the construction industry can be, especially for folks who put in valuable time and effort towards learning how to do things the right way early on. We wanted to directly impact the Lexington community by contributing to some of the industry educators, and especially to the students those educators are molding into future construction rock stars!”
The Educational Foundation and Lexington Technology Center are very fortunate to have the leaders of Bald Cypress Builders supporting skilled education in Lexington District One, as they are helping to develop and build future employees and construction industry in the Lexington community.
