Top Lexington District One Seniors Honored at the Educational Foundation’s 2020 Celebration of Excellence in Education
February 27, 2020: The Lexington One Educational Foundation held its annual Celebration of Excellence in Education banquet on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, which honored the top 176 seniors in Lexington District One who academically ranked in the top 10% of their senior classes. More than 600 individuals attended this year’s event held at Brookland Banquet and Conference Center including the honored students, their parents, Lexington District One staff and generous sponsors. The Gilbert High School Chamber Orchestra performed for the honored guests and a Celebration Art Gallery featured artwork by the district’s high school students.
The Celebration’s guest speaker was Dr. William H. Harman, who is a 1990 alumnus of Gilbert High School (GHS) and a local family physician with Prisma Health. He encouraged the students to have confidence, to persevere when facing challenges, to have humility and think of others first, and to be visionary in setting and achieving goals.
Since GHS was the event’s host school, the Master of Ceremonies was GHS Football Emcee and Lexington One Operations Program Manager Matt Warren. Senior Pastor Josh Powell of Lake Murray Baptist Church provided the invocation.
Educational Foundation Chair Rosemary Wilson inducted students from each of the Lexington School District One High Schools – Gilbert, Lexington, Pelion, River Bluff and White Knoll – into the Old English Society. This honor is only bestowed upon students who rank in the top 10% of their senior class academically.
The Foundation’s leaders were extremely grateful to the many sponsors of this year’s event, which included Duff Freeman Lyon, LLC, attorneys and counselors at law and an anonymous friend as Diamond Level Sponsors. The event’s sponsors made it possible for the Foundation to invite the honored student and two guests at no cost to each family. Platinum Sponsors were Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina; Comporium; Gregory Electric Co., Inc.; Halligan Mahoney & Williams; H.G. Reynolds Co., Inc.; Jumper Carter Sease Architects; Lexington Medical Center; Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative; Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union; South State Bank; Town of Lexington, SC; and Thomas “Tom” Trinkner, DDS. Other generous donors included 22 Gold Level Sponsors, 17 Silver Level Sponsors and 2 Collegiate Sponsors.
