January 15, 2021

January 15, 2021: Congratulations to our fall recipients of the Michelin Golden Apple Teacher Grant Awards! Our recipients were recently recognized via the Foundation’s social media pages for their exciting achievement. Spring grant awards totaled $2,950.34 and were given to 15 Lexington District One teachers at 14 different schools, which will positively impact 3,195 students this fall.

  • Beechwood Middle – Lauren Meyers, Leah Nadorff
  • Centerville Elementary – Elizabeth Sevenson
  • Carolina Springs Elementary – Tyler Smith, Stacey Merritt
  • Forts Pond Elementary – Matt Weber
  • Lexington High – Allison Johnson, Christian Rodriguez-Castro
  • Lake Murray Elementary – Katie Gregory, Dawn Jacobs (also benefits New Providence Elementary and Rocky Creek Elementary)
  • Midway Elementary – Ashley Morris
  • Meadow Glen Elementary – Jami Carter, Melissa Snell
  • Pleasant Hill Elementary – Renae Aman
  • Pelion High – Katie Simmons

Thanks to Michelin’s continued financial support, the Lexington One Educational Foundation offers this grant opportunity to teachers in Lexington District One biannually. Teachers can apply for up to $250 in grant funds to provide unique educational experiences for their students. The grants allow for more creative learning opportunities that are not typically supported by the school supply budget.

Some of the spring projects chosen included purchasing read-aloud math books to enhance mathematical skills; strengthening literacy through a Story Walk; identifying and investigating various minerals that make up the world around us through the purchase of Geology Geodes; exploring engineering concepts with a STEM Building Brick Laboratory; and purchasing math manipulatives to teach algebra concepts via hands-on materials.

Congratulations to each of these teachers for their accomplishment in earning a Michelin Golden Apple Teacher Grant! We deeply appreciate Michelin’s continued generosity and commitment to Lexington School District One teachers and students through the company’s long-standing partnership with the Lexington One Educational Foundation!
