September 21, 2018: Michelin announced a $30,000 commitment to the Lexington One Educational Foundation to support robotics education in the district at the Lexington School District One Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, September 18, 2018. Personnel Manager Mike Williams made the announcement and emphasized the company’s commitment to educating students about emerging technologies and career opportunities in their industry.

The Michelin donation will be a three-year investment to support Lexington School District One robotics teams through select team sponsorship. In addition to a financial investment, Michelin will also provide professional mentors for five teams; this will allow Michelin leaders to help develop and sharpen technological, mechanical, communication and leadership skills in the Lexington One students on these robotics teams.

Simeon Bryant, chair of the Lexington One Educational Foundation, praised Michelin for its donation, “The Foundation leaders are extremely thankful for corporate partners like Michelin that continue to invest in our students and their educational pursuits. STEM areas of study through hands-on experiences are such important components of a student’s education in the 21st century.”

Julie Anderson Washburn, executive director of the Educational Foundation, agreed, “We are so fortunate and appreciative of Michelin’s continued generosity in supporting Lexington School District One in so many ways. This partnership is a terrific example of a local company having a positive impact on our students through its financial investment and mentorship.”
