Memorial Gifts for Raymond S. Caughman

March 29, 2019

March 29, 2019: We were saddened to learn of the recent passing of Mr. Raymond S. Caughman on March 28, 2019. A dedicated community leader, Mr. Caughman faithfully served as a board member for the Lexington One Educational Foundation from 1998-2004. He was also on the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees from 1969-1972 and held t he position of Secretary/Treasurer during his tenure.

Mr. Caughman’s career began with the Army and then continued with the Bank of Lexington upon returning to his hometown. He continued to work in the banking industry and he last served as President, Chief Executive Officer and Member of the Board of Directors when The Lexington State Bank merged with BB&T.

Mr. Caughman’s love and interest in educating children was obvious as he served the Educational Foundation. In 2008, the Foundation leaders honored him with a “Heart of Lexington One” event dedicated to “Raymond S. Caughman’s leadership in the community.” His voice as an advocate of public education and especially Lexington School District One was obvious. At Mr. Caughman’s request, event proceeds of $98,000 that were directed to the “Raymond Caughman Books for Children” fund were used to fund upgrades in all of the schools’ media centers, including the purchase of new books.

In response to Mr. Caughman’s recent passing, a number of individuals asked if they could make a gift to the district in his memory, due to his faithful service to Lexington One students, teachers and schools. Please know that i f you wish to donate to Lexington One in Mr. Caughman’s memory, you may send your gifts to:
