Memorial Gifts for Nate Boyer Creates Scholarship

February 5, 2018

February 5, 2018: Please know that we were extremely saddened to learn of the recent passing of one of our former Lexington School District One students, Nathaniel “Nate” A. Boyer on November 14, 2017. As a result of his passing, many friends and family expressed interests in making donations to form a scholarship for a deserving Lexington High School student all given in Nate’s memory. Accordingly, the Educational Foundation has established the Nate Boyer Memorial Scholarship in hopes of awarding the first scholarship in May of 2018.

Please know that if you wish to make gifts to Lexington One in Nate Boyer’s memory, you may send your gifts to the Lexington One Educational Foundation (P. O. Box 1869, Lex., SC 29071-1869) or drop a donation off at our offices (100 Tarrar Springs Rd., Lex., SC 29072) any weekday between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm. As always, we will send a note to the family notifying them of the memorial gift honoring Nate, in addition to providing a personal thank you and charitable contribution notification of the tax-deductible donation.

An overview of the scholarship can be found below, while the official application is on the Educational Foundation’s website under the Scholarship page: http://www.lexington1.net/about/educational-foundation/grants-and-scholarships/student-applications

Thank you for continuing to keep the entire Boyer family in your thoughts during this difficult time. Nate was an exceptional young man with a passion for music, poetry, soccer and so much more.

Nate Boyer Memorial Scholarship

Nate Boyer was a truly unique individual. He liked to focus on the big picture and took his own path towards finding the truth, exploring questions such as, “Why are we here?” and “What is the meaning of life?” An intensely spiritual and philosophic person at times, Nate was also a talented artist, poet, and musician. As an accomplished guitarist, Nate had the ability and gift to be able to express himself and connect to others through his music. Brilliant and humble, Nate had a wonderful sense of humor; he loved being around people and making them laugh. A benevolent friend, Nate was so generous with his time and possessions that he would literally give you the shirt off of his back. Nate also loved being physically active, as he had been an athlete since the age of five when he started playing recreational soccer. Soon enough, recreational soccer became club soccer, which then became Lexington High School soccer. Nate enjoyed the competition and camaraderie with his teammates.

In remembering Nate, this scholarship will be awarded to the individual who shares Nate’s beautiful, kind nature. This includes curiosity, humor, kindness, and a strong sense of self and personal identity. The Foundation Scholarship Selection Committee will also consider a student’s involvement in soccer or other athletic involvement, as well as a student’s involvement in the arts.
