Lowes Foods Cake Walk & Foundation Gift

July 21, 2017

July 21, 2017: Many thanks to Lowes Foods and the Lexington County Blowfish for the attempt to set a world record for the largest Cake Walk on Saturday, July 15, 2017. The event was to take place prior to the baseball game with all proceeds benefitting the Lexington One Educational Foundation. Cost was $5 per person, which gave each participant five attempts to win a large cake and guaranteed all participants a delicious cake square from the Lowes Foods Cakery.

Our thanks to all who showed to participate and support Lexington One. Unfortunately, the weather threw us a curve ball with a storm that arose when the Cake Walk was to begin and it continued through the night, cancelling the walk and the game. However, all was not lost as the Blowfish opened up their main event area as a refuge from the storm. Soon after Lowes Foods leaders decided to share the delicious cake squares with everyone who was present.

The following Friday on July 21, the second Lowes Foods store held its grand opening. Prior to the opening Tim Lowe presented Educational Foundation leaders with a check for $3,000. Dr. Greg Little, Lexington One superintendent; Simeon Bryant, Foundation chair; and Julie Washburn, Foundation executive director, all attended to celebrate the occasion and graciously accepted the kindness extended to support Lexington One schools and students.

“We are so glad to have Lowes Foods here in the Lexington community and thrilled with their support of Lexington One students, schools and programs,” said Julie Washburn. Dr. Little announced that his first job was actually as a grocery bag boy with a Lowes Foods store in North Carolina when he shared his appreciation for the donation. Simeon Bryant also shared his professional connections with the grocery industry and his sincere gratitude for the donation.

In addition the gift, Lowes Foods staff said that parents and friends can sign up for a Lowes Foods rewards card and select their favorite Lexington One school(s) to benefit from a percentage of their shopping totals. Lowes Foods is a welcome neighbor to Lexington One!
