Foundation Awards Bucks for Books Grants to all Lexington District One Middle Schools

December 15, 2020

December 15, 2020, LEXINGTON, S.C. — The Lexington One Educational Foundation recently awarded a total of $16,000 in Bucks for Books Grants to Lexington District One middle schools. As a result, each middle school will receive $2,000 to support literacy efforts. This is the second year that the foundation has provided this grant to middle schools and the two previous years the foundation awarded grants to elementary schools.

Executive Director Julie Washburn stated, “The Lexington One Educational Foundation Board of Directors recognizes the importance of developing literacy skills in our students. Our Bucks for Books Grants this school year are a continued investment in the middle school students in our district.”

The Foundation funds for this grant were made possible by donations from Lexington District One employees’ gifts to the Lexington Education Assistance Plan (LEAP). Each fall the foundation staff and volunteers ask for generous donations; our Lexington District One administrators, teachers and staff are very kind in giving to support educational and emergency needs that exist in the district.

To date the Lexington One Educational Foundation has invested $95,500 through the Bucks for Bucks Grants awarded to 25 of our schools, which ultimately strengthen the literacy skills of Lexington District One students.
