Central Services Staff Help Lexington District One Students in Need with Emergency Kits
October 3, 2019: The Lexington One Educational Foundation held a drive at the beginning of the school year with Central Services staff and asked all to donate items needed to create Emergency Kits. The district is fortunate to have many companies donate school supplies, however, the district One social workers need these kits to assist families in need throughout the school year. The social workers give the Emergency Kits to Lexington District One families who find themselves temporarily out of a home due to a home fire, flood or other desperate situation.
We had a terrific response from Central Services staff, including one individual who was extremely generous in creating 10 kits on her own! We also appreciated a few local donations of toothbrushes and toothpaste from two kind supporters – Dr. Thomas “Tom” Trinkner and Dr. Brad Pitts. Thanks to everyone’s generosity, the Foundation’s 2019 Central Services Drive resulted in 54 Emergency Kits this year!
Each kit includes items such as the following:
- Toothbrush
- Toothpaste
- Bath Towel
- Washcloth
- Soap or Body Wash
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
- Deodorant
- Q-tips
- Hand sanitizer
- Small First Aid Kit
- Hair brush
- Ibuprofen
- Band-Aids
- Lotion
We were also thankful to a few Lexington District One students who helped Foundation staff sort donations and then stuff a numbers of kits with needed items. All donations for each individual are packaged in large plastic zip lock bags that can be easily grabbed and handed out quickly to families in need.
Kudos and many thanks to everyone who helped through an in-kind donation or time in packaging donated items! This heartfelt generosity will go a long way in helping Lexington District One families in need!
